Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.1) (.2)

: ( 648co)
Black captures White's single stone at the upper edge "early".

:
White plays the central attachment in the left centre.

:
In principle, this move loses one tempo in the Main Semeai. However, it also creates an approach-move liberty () for her left-hand group, so the net effect is zero.

:
Black is bound to follow the Main Semeai, and gives atari at White's two stones in the lower left.

Please refer to ( 648ap) for details, why it is too early now to play the push at , instead.

:
White simplifies the presentation by taking territory in the centre.

She might also wait until after her decision point with starting the following sequence.
She would not benefit from closing the hole at the top with a move at , instead. Black would destroy White's potential territory in the centre with , and after White's block at it would become evident that White lost the two points, which she got at the top, in the left centre.

:
White just lost one tempo in the Main Semeai, so Black is free to play the push at the top.

:
Black reduces White's territory at the upper edge by another point.

:
Finally, Black captures White's two stones.

Black must not play any reduction.

White will start the Semeai Variation with her kikashi , in the hanezeki.

We have reached a change in the order of moves with the superordinate variation.

The final scores of the game will be Black + 2 / White + 3
