No Early Kikashi

White prevents Black's kikashi in the hanezeki.

Black must play his atari in the hanezeki now.

Otherwise, White would further gain in the Semeai Variations by playing her kikashi of , in the hanezeki.

White connects her single stone at the upper edge.

Black destroys White's potential territory in the centre.

White continues with the Main Semeai, choosing Dany's Sacrifice.

Black must not play any reduction.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black captured two White stones in the lower left, so gaining four points.
  • White captured one Black stone in the lower right, so gaining two points.

In total, White lost two points.

White + 1 => Black + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black captured one White stone less at the left, so losing two points.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the lower right, so losing two points.
  • White captures an additional Black stone above the nakade, so gaining two points.

In total, White gained two points.

White + 1 => White + 3
