Black captures White's two stones at the right edge, securing life for his large group in the upper right quarter of the board.

However, White's throw-in kills Black's entire left side.

White must not capture the hanezeki's tail, instead, because is no longer absolute sente. Black will save all his stones at the left side by connecting at (threatening to capture White's single stone above), and win by a small margin.

Connecting his partial groups at the left first, with a move at , does not benefit Black, because his group at the left has too few outside liberties to win the succeeding capturing race at the left side.

White will win the game by a large margin.
