Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.2) (.2)

: ( 648fd)
White plays Dany's atekomi in the left centre, but does not necessarily intend to fight Dany's Ko.

Please note that this move is - in principle - played outside the Main Semeai area. But it does not lose a tempo in the Main Semeai, because it creates an approach-move liberty () for White's group at the left.

: (A 648fg)
Quite surprisingly, White is able to simplify the issue by connecting after Black's atari.

If she answered at , instead, intending to fight Dany's Ko, she would get no better result overall, but worsen her score in the alternative Main Variation.

:
Black plays his kikashi in the hanezeki "early".

:
Black connects.

:
Black has two Main Semeai Liberties to spend, so White will not choose Dany's Sacrifice, but connect.

Black plays 2/2 reductions.
