No Early Kikashi

It is usually not the best idea from White to forestall Black's kikashi in the hanezeki, and so it is here.
Please remember that this move is gote in itself, and White only benefits from the later exchange of for in the Semeai Variation.

After his forcing move at the top, Black connects in the lower left corner.
This move gains one point (compared to White's throw-in), because Black does not need to capture at before approaching White's group in the corner.

:
White's connection at the top gains her two points locally in return.

White continues with the Main Semeai, choosing Dany's Sacrifice in the lower left.

White must not connect with .
Not only will Black win the Semeai Variation, but she will also lose one point overall.

Black plays 0/2 reductions.

White will start the Semeai Variation with her kikashi , in the hanezeki.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the upper edge is two points.
  • Black does not need to capture White's two stones in the lower left corner, so gaining one point.
  • Black captured two White stones in the lower left, so gaining four points.

In total, White lost three points.

White + 2 => Black + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the upper edge is two points.
  • Black does not need to capture White's two stones in the lower left corner, so gaining one point.
  • Black captures one White stone less in the lower left, so losing two points.
  • White captured an additional Black stone at the left, so gaining two points.
  • White got an additional point of territory in the hanezeki.

In total, White gained six points.

Black + 4 =>White + 2
