Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.2) (.1)

: ( 648go)
White blocks at the top, pre-empting Black's forcing move at the same point.

:
Black, takes the large point in the top right in return, capturing White's single stone there.

In principle, Black loses two Main Semeai Liberties by this move. But becomes an approach-move liberty of his group, so the net effect of this move is a loss of one Main Semeai Liberty.

:
White blocks at the upper edge for the second time.
Her gains in the upper left, however, cannot wholly compensate for her losses in the upper right.

Black plays 3/4 reductions.

Please assume the rejection of Dany's Sacrifice and Black's second kikashi in the hanezeki (, ) played before.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain by blocking her upper side is three points.
  • Black destroyed two points of White's territory in the upper right.
  • Black gained two points by capturing White's single stone in the upper right.

In total, White lost one point.

White + 2 => White + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain by blocking her upper side is three points.
  • Black destroyed one point of White's territory in the upper right.
  • White gained three points by capturing an additional two Black stones in the upper right.

In total, White gained five points.

Black + 4 => White + 1
