Black connects in the centre.

:
White connects her single stone at the upper edge.

; :
Black plays his remaining kikashi on the lower side of the board.

:
White connects.

White will not choose Dany's Sacrifice here, as the final result of the game will become worse overall.
If she did, Black would be unable to reduce her territory in the upper right with and . These gains, however, would not be sufficient to compensate for her loss in the lower left.
The final scores would become White + 1 / White + 1.

:
White must connect the ko in the centre "early". Otherwise, Black will capture and connect, enhancing the overall result in his favour.

Black plays 3/6 reductions.

With 6/6 reductions, the final scores would be Black + 1 / White + 5.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the upper edge is two points.
  • In the left centre, Black got one point of territory, but did not capture one White stone, so the net effect is zero.
  • Black got an additional point of territory in the lower left corner.

In total, Black lost one point.

White + 1 => White + 2

Semeai Variation:

At White's decision point, Black's large group in the upper right will have ten liberties, eight direct liberties (), and two approach-move liberties (), so White will be unable to capture it.

Black will win the game by a large margin.
