No Early Kikashi

White continues with the Main Semeai.
In this subvariation, she intends to not connect her two stones in the lower left that are in atari.

White's push in the left centre is the starting point for settling the territory outside the Main Semeai area.

White secures two points at the upper edge.

Black erases his shortage of liberties at the left.

Simply continuing with the Main Semeai would be a grave mistake.

Alternatively, he might consider further occupying White's liberties at the left.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower left corner is two points.
  • Black did not destroy one point of White's territory in the upper right corner.
  • White captures Black's stone in the lower right, so gaining two points.
  • Black captured two White stones in the lower left, so gaining four points.

In total, White lost three points.

White + 2 => Black + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower left corner is two points.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the upper right corner, so losing one point.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the lower right, so losing two points.
  • Black captured two White stones less in the lower left, so losing four points.

In total, White lost one point.

White + 2 => White + 1
