Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR

: ( 648kv)
Black gives atari at White's two stones in the lower left.

: (A 648kx)
White connects.

Contrary to the line, where she (and not Black) played at in the hanezeki, she will not gain by letting her two stones become captured. Here, the "usual" effect of Dany's Sacrifice will apply (with Black having no eye in the centre), i.e. a loss of three points in the Capture Variation, and of one point in the Semeai Variation.

:
Black initiates Dany's Ko.
Please note that this move loses a tempo in the Main Semeai, because it is played outside the Main Semeai area.

:
White's reply is also played outside the Main Semeai area.
As long as the point of lA is not occupied by a Black stone, neither lB, nor lC, are approach-move liberties of White's left-hand group.

:
Black starts the ko fight.

: (A 648mc)
White plays the atari in the upper left centre as a ko threat.

Black will not benefit if White does without this atari - for the time being - and e.g. captures the nakade, instead.

: (B 648me)
Black connects.

Black might consider taking White's left-hand group a liberty, instead, but he will be unable to increase his score.

:
White recaptures the ko.

:
Black will have to erase his shortage of liberties at the left edge sooner or later. Therefore, he does it now to simplify the presentation.

:
White plays her kikashi in the lower left corner, threatening to kill Black's entire group.
Please note that this move loses a tempo in the Main Semeai.

:
Black has to connect at the lower edge.

:
White connects her single stone at the upper edge, which is the largest point now.

; :
Black plays his remaining kikashi, as he does not want to continue a ko fight that he will be unable to win.

:
Black continues with the Main Semeai, occupying one of White's approach-move liberties.

:
White must connect the ko - sooner or later.

:
The Main Semeai continues.

Black plays 3/4 reductions.

White will play her kikashi , in the lower left corner before White's decision point, so that Black will have to capture at before the end of the game.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation there are no changes.

White + 2 => White + 2

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation there are no changes.

White + 2 => White + 2
