No Early Kikashi

Black pushes at the top.

Later, White will play her kikashi , in the lower left corner, so that Black must capture at before the end of the game.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated loss in the lower left corner is two points.
  • Black did not destroy two points of White's territory at the top, so losing twp points.
  • White did not destroy one point of Black's territory in the upper left corner, so losing one point.
  • White did not capture Black's stone in the lower right, so losing two points.

In total, Black lost one point

White + 1 => White + 2

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated loss in the lower left corner is two points.
  • White captured two Black stones less in the upper right, so losing two points.
  • Black captured one White stone less in the upper left, but an additional one in the lower left corner, for a cumulated gain of one pint.
  • White captures an additional Black stone in the lower right, so gaining two points.

In total, Black lost one point.

White + 1 => White + 2
