No Early Kikashi

Black captures White's single stone at the upper edge.

Due to White's previous block , Black lost two ko threats (at lB and lC) at the top, so recapturing Dany's ko with , instead, does not make sense.

Black connects, and does not fight the ko by recapturing at any longer.
Please note that White lost her ko threat at lB, due to Black's liberty at lC, so effectively White has one more ko threat here in this subvariation.

and can be considered to be a double-ko; therefore each side will connect one of these before the end of the game.

Black plays 3/3 reductions.

Please assume Black's second kikashi in the hanezeki (, ) played before.

Later, White will play her kikashi , in the lower left corner, so Black is forced to capture at before the end of the game.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated gain at the upper edge is two points.
  • White got an additional point of territory at the top.
  • Black did not destroy three points of White's territory at the top.
  • White did not destroy one point of Black's territory in the upper left corner.
  • White did not capture Black's stone in the lower right, so losing two points.

In total, White lost one point.

White + 2 => White + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated gain at the upper edge is two points.
  • White got an additional point of territory at the top.
  • White captured three Black stones less at the top, so losing three points.
  • Black captured one White stone less at the left edge, so losing one point.
  • White captured an additional Black stone in the lower right, so gaining two points.

In total, White lost one point.

White + 2 => White + 1
