Joachim found that Black's throw-in at in the upper right would have been a valid ko threat.

White is barely ahead in ko threats (2 x vs. ) before this move, so our earlier mistake with White's atari in the upper left centre will not affect the final scores of this subvariation.

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the upper edge is two points.
  • White lost one point of territory at the too.
  • White captured an additional two Black stones in the upper right, so gaining two points.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the lower right, so losing two points.

In total, White gained one point.

White + 1 => White + 2
