Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.1) (.1)

: ( 648og)
White blocks at the upper edge.

(Referenced by 648om)

: (A 648oi)
Black captures White's single stone at the upper edge.

He might also play KataGo's solid connection "late", achieving the same final scores.

:
We play several moves, strictly of the Main Semeai only, to analyse what might be the correct way to play in the left centre, and at the upper edge.
Please note that Black is already par with the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level.

:
White gives atari in the centre.

:
White chooses a simple line of play. The areas in the left centre, and at the upper edge, are miai.

:
White started the additional sequence, so Black is able to end in sente, without affecting the liberty count of the Main Semeai.

Black must not play any reduction.

Please assume Black's second kikashi in the hanezeki (, ) played before.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated gain at the upper edge is three points.
  • White got an additional point of territory at the top.
  • White got an additional two points of territory in the left centre.

In total, gains and losses compensate for each other.

White + 1 => White + 1
