Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.1) (.2)

: ( 648og)
White plays Dany's atekomi in the left centre.

Please note that White's move is played outside the Main Semeai area, and so would lose one tempo, in principle.
Here, however, this move creates an approach-move liberty () for her left-hand group, so the cumulated effect on the number of Main Semeai Liberties is zero.

:
Black does not have any chance to win Dany's Ko in the left centre, so he plays his kikashi in the hanezeki.

:
Black continues with the Main Semeai.

He is unable to give atari at in the left centre, because he cannot afford to lose even a single tempo in the Main Semeai.

Neither is he able to play the push at at the top at the moment. Please refer to ( 648ap) for details.

:
White simplifies the matter by connecting her single stone at the upper edge.
Please note that this move loses a Main Semeai Liberty, and so frees Black from his current restrictions.

:
Now, Black is able to play his kikashi at the top.

:
Black does not have sufficient Main Semeai Liberties left to capture the ko with and to connect thereafter, so he could simply connect at , in order to stop White from getting any territory in the left centre.

Black plays 0/1 reduction.
