Variations of the Professional Solution

VARP (.1)

(Referenced by 1092p)

: ( 730a)
Black plays tenuki in the upper left corner.
Again, we play the Hasami-Tsuke Sequence first.

:
Finally, Black occupies the guzumi point.

:
White attacks Black's upper left corner, hoping for a territorial gain there that could compensate for Black's profits when living with his large group in the upper right.

:
Black starts the sequence that ensures him of two eyes, instead of connecting his three stones that are in atari.

:
White continues with the reduction of Black's top left corner.

:
White starts her territory-reducing moves at the left side of the board.
The following endgame will be identical to that in the previous subvariation ( 730b), because the result in the top left corner does not affect other parts of the board.

///:

The comparison of the final positions in the left half of the board (previous subvariation at the left) shows:

  • White did not get three points of territory at the top ().
  • White captured Black's atari-stone at the top, so gaining one point of territory ().
  • White captured one more stone at the top, so gaining two points of territory ().

The right half of the board is identical in both subvariations.

In total, White's gains and losses in the top left corner compensate for each other. The previous sub variation resulted in a White win by one points, so ...

White wins by one point.
