Black's group at the left does not have two eyes yet, and therefore would not survive Dany's Ko after , , , . Please note that White is fine with capturing the hanezeki's tail with , providing her with several unbeatable ko-threats in the hanezeki.

It is best for Black to answer with KataGo's Solid Connection in the left centre.

Connecting with at the lower edge would be also possible, not affecting the outcome of the game.
However, White would gain in the Semeai Variation unnecessarily.

  • White captured Black's single stone in the lower right, so gaining two points.

In total, White gained one point.

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation, ...

  • Black's cumulated gain at the upper edge is two points.
  • Black got an additional point of territory in the left centre.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the lower right, so losing two points.
  • Black captured two White stones more in the lower left corner, but lost three points of territory there, so the net effect is zero.

In total, White lost five points.

White + 1 => Black + 4
