Variations of Our Solution (I)

Black closes his upper left corner.

!!! We still follow the "classical" line of play in this sub-variation. !!!

Please note that the upper right corner is left untouched here, for the time being.

:
Black plays the final oki into White's eye on the left side.
However, the situation on the right side of the board is different from that at which at least one throw-in has been played in the hanezeki. White's connection at (= ) provides White's upper group in the hanezeki with an additional liberty ( 919).

:
The number of liberties of Black's large group in the upper right remained untouched, so White is able to capture the hanezeki's tail successfully just now.

: (130 81)
Throwing-in at , instead, hoping to reduce White's liberties in the hanezeki, would not change the matter.

:
White wins this version of a Punishment Semeai by one move, and so the game.

However, as we now know ( 77), Black has an option available to successfully counter White's connection on the lower cutting point in the hanezeki, without having to resort to the guzumi in the upper right corner of our solution.
