Playing the atari of , instead, would be a mistake here.

White might consider connecting with immediately, as she must not fear Joachim's Ko-Semeai any longer, due to her previous peep at the upper edge. However, she will suffer from Black's guzumi by losing some points overall, as in the alternative subvariation.
