Black uses his only, and so very valuable, ko-threat on the right side. His large group is below the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level, so no other move on the rest of the board could be used for this purpose.

Again, Black's group is reduced to seven liberties, so Black is forced to connect the hanezeki's tail.

White captures the ko for the last time.

Due to White's initial forcing moves of , and , in the upper left corner (= here), Black does not have any ko-threats on the left side. White's group has seven liberties () against five liberties (, ) of Black's group in the lower right, so White will win a semeai between these two groups, even if Black is allowed to make two moves in a row.

On the right side, Black does not have any ko-threats either. White's centre group has four liberties left, so the atari of on the upper edge is no valid ko-threat.

White wins the semeai by one move. Black is unable to give atari at . This is the same result as with the main line here.
