No Early Kikashi

However, we now know that White does not want to pre-empt this move.

If she mistakenly did, she would not change the overall result, but become unable to capture Black's large group at the right in the Semeai Variation.

Black plays 3/4 reductions.

Please assume the rejection of Dany's Sacrifice and Black's second kikashi in the hanezeki (, ) played before.

White will connect at after her decision point.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the top edge is two points.
  • White's cumulated loss in the lower left corner is two points.
  • White did not sacrifice one stone in the left centre, so gaining one point.
  • White captured one Black stone in the centre.
  • White did not capture Black's single stone in the lower right, so losing two points.
  • White lost one point of territory in the top right corner.

In total, White lost one point.

White + 2 => White + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the top edge is two points.
  • White's cumulated loss in the lower left corner is two points.
  • White did not sacrifice one stone in the left centre, so gaining one point.
  • White captured one Black stone in the centre.
  • White lost one additional stone in the left centre, but saved one in the bottom left corner.
  • White captured an additional two Black stones at the left side of the board, for a gain of three points.

In total, White gained five points.

Black + 4 => White + 1
