Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.5) (.3)

: ( 648br)
White connects her two stones that were in atari, refusing Dany's Sacrifice.

:
Black continues with the Main Semeai.

:
White plays her kikashi in the hanezeki.

The final scores would be unaffected, had Black played his atari at before.

Black plays 0/2 reductions.

If Black played 2/2 reductions, the final scores would become Black + 1 / White + 3

Please be aware that Black has the option here to not reduce White's territory in the upper right for the Capture Variation, so gaining points in the Semeai Variation in return.

If White had chosen Dany's sacrifice, the number of possible reductions would have decreased to zero. In return, Black would have got an advantage of two points in the Capture Variation (please note that White will get an additional point of territory in the hanezeki here in this subvariation). But the final score of the Semeai Variation would have remained at White + 3.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black did not capture White's two stones in the lower left, so losing four points.
  • Black gained an additional point of territory in the hanezeki.

In total, White gained three points.

Black + 2 => White + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black captured an additional White stone in the lower left, so White lost two points.

White + 3 => White + 1
