Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.3)

: ( 648ab)
Black gives atari at White's two stones in the lower left.

: (A 648fp; B 648fq)
White throws-in in the lower left corner.

She might also consider immediately connecting at , achieving the same final scores as herein.
Playing in the hanezeki at is also possible without changing the overall result. But White will be unable to capture Black's large group in the upper right in the Semeai Variation.

: (130 648fs)
Black plays his kikashi in the hanezeki first.

It might be tempting to capture at just now, but this move would be a grave mistake.

: (B 648fw)
White connects her two stones, threatening to kill Black's large group at the left, by destroying his potential eye in the centre with a move at .

Immediately answering Black's kikashi locally would be mistaken.

:
Black secures his second eye in the left centre.

Cutting at in the hanezeki, instead, is out of the question, as this move would end in a disaster for him. White's move at would kill his large group at the left by reducing it to one small eye.

:
After his forcing move at the top, Black captures White's single stone at the upper edge.

:
Black connects.

:
White continues with the Main Semeai, having reached a change in the order of moves with the main line.

The final scores of the game will be White + 2 / Black + 4.
