    --Black did not destroy one point of White's territory at the upper edge.
  • White did not get any territory in the left centre, so losing three points.
  • Black did not capture White's two stones in the lower left, so losing three points.

In total, Black lost one point.

White + 2 => White + 3

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

    --Black did not destroy one point of White's territory at the upper edge.
  • White did not get any territory in the left centre, so losing three points.
  • Black captured two White stones more in the lower left, so gaining three points.

In total, Black gained five points.
