If she ever wanted to refuse Dany's Sacrifice in the lower left, she would like to precede this with her moves and in the lower left corner.

White continues with the Main Semeai, choosing Dany's Sacrifice.

She would be worse, if she connected her two stones in the lower left, instead.

Black must not play any reduction.

In the Capture Variation, Black will connect at before the end of the game.

White will start the Semeai Variation with her kikashi , in the hanezeki, and throw-in at thereafter, forcing Black to capture and connect.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White gained an additional point of territory at the upper edge.
  • Black did not capture one White stone in the left centre, so losing one point.
  • White did not get any territory in the left centre, so losing two points.
  • Black got an additional point of territory in the left centre.

In total, White lost one point.

Black + 2 => Black + 3

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White gained an additional point of territory at the upper edge.
  • Black did not capture one White stone in the left centre, so losing one point.
  • White did not get any territory in the left centre, so losing two points.
  • Black captured one White stone in the left centre, so gaining one point.

In total, White lost one point.

White + 3 => White + 2
